Be your own me

I got the most recent Vanity Fair yesterday. Yeah. Obama on the cover. Some props to Woody Allen and Marlon Brando. A bit of a blurb about the guy that was in "Slumdog Millionaire". Nice. I will, eventually, one day, hop in the tub and have a glass of wine and peruse it. I admit to being behind in my VF reading.
Anyways, it's been 25 years since "This is Spinal Tap" and they interviewed the band members and I almost fell off my chair laughing. Here are some snippets of the interview:

VF: How does it feel to have influenced everyone from Metallica to Flight of the Conchords?
Michael McKean: Anyone who was touched by us in any way, we deny it.

VF: How come there has never been a Spinal Tap sex-tape scandal?
Christopher Guest: We tried. There was no interest.

VF: What's the name of your book?
Michael McKean: It's called BYOM: Be Your Own Me. Don't be my you. Be your own me. And also don't be sad. That's the main message: take your sadness and shove it up your ass.

VF: Does that make you sad - a lost ideal of the 60s?
Michael McKean: You know what to do with your sadness. I already told you.

Chortle. Also, I skipped the clinic (they were doing a 5k run) and I ran on my own for 7.5k and knocked two minutes off my time cause I had done that same route on Monday (when I was only supposed to do 6k). You know how sometimes you just want to run really fast? Today was that day. It felt good. There was no reason for my speed: I was tired; I didn't sleep well last night, but I was clocking in with 4:41 kilometres.
Um. Yeah. So I came home and was cranky, ran and now I feel better. Tomorrow is Friday and then we're going to Seattle for the weekend.
Woo-hoo! We never go anywhere. Okay, that's a lie. But we don't go anywhere often and it was Michael's idea even. I'm always trying to plan weekends away but he came up with this on his own (fundamentally because Koolhaus built a library or something in Seattle).
Actually, he's probably ambivalent as to whether I come with or not.
Wanna see my Kitimat pictures again?
Exaaaaactly.

Vancouver to Seattle... that's not too far. It always surprises me how people in other parts of the world don't venture out on roadtrips like we do here in Texas. We think nothing of a 1-2 hour long trip to shop at some specialty store. And we do it in a gas guzzling hummer. I say we... but I'm not really a shopper and get most of my goods as close to home as I can.

I often take myself on road trips on the spur of the moment - I love going places. Especially in the summer when the weather forecast is looking great, I'll jump in the car and drive to the coast - Wales (3 hours) or Devon/Cornwall (4+ hours). It's always worth it to smell the sea air and hear the waves crashing.

I get 50 MPG in my car (it's a diesel) so there's more money left for the great escape :-)

Road trips are fun, that's for sure. We usually go places when the weather's good. Or get lost in the local woods when the weather's not so good.
Should I drive my Hummer tomorrow, do you think?

That is an evil looking photo, right? It makes me laugh.

yeah, go ahead you drive your hummer and Michael can follow in his. What's the price of gas up there? Our's is at $1.78 a gallon.

My sister and I drove over to the next town north of us this morning, 15 miles, then on to the next town west about 20 miles, then south into the next town about 15 miles and then back east and home about 25 or 30 miles. And this was just to go shopping... for nothing. Makes me feel guilty when I do stuff like that. How wasteful. But it seems like everything in Texas is really spread out. The hubby had to work on the coast the other day and he spent 8 hours driving just to get there. In Texas it literally takes 12 hours to drive from one farthest tip the the other. And you can start in the desert mountains and end up in the swamps at sea level.
