Today's happy occurrence:
I met Michael for dinner downtown and we went to the Keg and used the $50 gift card that I earned because I collect air miles like it's going out of style because living my life is goddamned expensive.
I then went to Rogers and rented "Wonderful World: Happiness is a State of Mind" for free because I was talked into buying one of those coupon booklets for $20 last weekend because I'm a Luddite and I still rent DVDs because I'm too cheap to get a faster internet connection (well, actually, I don't think you should have to be bent over your kitchen counter and vigorously fucked for your internet and cell phone plans like what we are in Canada, but hey: this is a happy post, right?).
Anyways: I enjoyed my evening on the cheap and I liked the title of the movie given my current penchant to find a bigger abundance of happiness in my life and I do recommend the movie. It puts things into perspective, it's not Hollywood and, as always, Mathew Broderick is fantastic.
Today's memory:
Sitting with my most excellent and insightful friend L in one of the most luxe neighbourhoods in Vancouver, having coffee, watching the world pass us by. We both unloaded the problems we were having in our relationships and jobs. We maybe both felt that we weren't hitting the mark in our lives. And then one of us mentioned the Congolese women that are being gang raped by opposing tribes. And that shut us up rather quickly.
The good news:
Freedom of speech and freedom to protest.
And I also was caught right in the middle of Critical Mass downtown tonight, with the sun shining and all the riders' ringing their bells and I was happy to see that almost every single one of them were wearing helmets and I love non-violent civil disobedience.
Must get bike.
