There is no original thought

Coming to the final pages of Gillian Slovo's "Ice Road". Excellent book: I recommend. A twist at the end of it reminds me of Greene's "The End of the Affair" (also a great read and movie). Making deals with fate. If you allow me to escape this dire predicament unscathed I promise to...
So many dire predicaments. So many promises laid at the altar of Fate as though our fervent oaths have any bearing on the directions our lives might take.
If you let me run the Sun Run tomorrow without me getting a twitch in my eye, suffering from a bout of hypoglycemia, or having a close encounter with hypothermia I promise to... change nothing.
In other news, someone has asked for my thoughts on Descartes infamous "I think, therefore I am". I don't even know where to begin with this. What does "think" mean? What is "am"? I "am" to whom? And in what context? An amoeba doesn't think, but it exists, does it not? The table upon which I type exists, but does not think.
Fundamentally, though, the people that exist at the house party nearby me should think about turning their music down.
50,000 of us have to get up early tomorrow.

So you traded a jackhammer for a house party... Hope you are about to do very well on your run.
