These are my new glasses

After work on Friday I went to my mom's for dinner. She lent me Shock Doctrine and I've started reading it and I already want to kill people and bust shit. Corporations are great. Years ago I came across the slogan "old men and oil companies control the world". I can't remember if it was from a movie or a book or a song, but I never forgot that adage, and it's true. How can there be democracy when large corporations are throwing millions or billions of dollars at the government to get them on their side or to have them turn a blind eye while they engage in unethical practices here and abroad?
Anyways, I'm not here to have a heart attack, but if you haven't read Shock Doctrine then I suggest you do. I think it should be mandatory reading for everyone over the age of fourteen, but instead the only people that will read the goddamn thing are the same people that go and see Michael Moore movies. The conservative, Friedman loving people that believe that economics is a science instead of just a general idea to be taken with a grain of salt and that Canadians are bordering on communism thanks to universal health care will never see this movie because they're too enraptured with the opiate addict Rush Limbaugh and the bone rack that is Anne Coulter to see straight.
I was watching KCTS today and it was a political show and there was a woman on it that wrote a book about how Bush was elected for a second term (like really: how the fuck did that happen?) and she asked a bunch of people why they switched from Dems to Republicans and it was because they thought Bush was a more personable guy than Gore. I mean sure, Gore didn't have the (faux) shucks y'all persona that Bush did (that was invented for him like his born again Christianity was in order for him to garner more votes), but I still understood that Bush was a right wing nut job that was going to bring us one step closer to WWIII and the utter devastation of the environment.
Ah. See, this is why I try and steer clear of these books. They just enrage me and make me want to kick people to death (I stole that line from Moonstruck which I watched yesterday for the first time ever).
Where was I? Right. Dinner with my mom. Then a visit with Po. Ran 10k with Michael the next day. Went to his place and watched television.
Today I managed 11.4 miles with no pain which leads me to believe that my knee issues are really stemming from the camber of the road in Victoria. The last time I had this injury I wasn't able to run more than 6 miles without being brought to a stop by the pain and swelling. Regardless I will go to physio tomorrow and get some advice and some exercises to bone up on before my next marathon in seven weeks. Ha. Fck.
Dinner tonight to celebrate D's birthday with some other runners. It was fun. I've met the coolest people since moving here a couple of years ago.
Nice people rock.
