Got up around noon. Possibly 1pm. I can't really remember. Pot hangovers are the shiznit. I'm always so calm and unflappable and at peace with myself.I didn't really do anything today. I ran 6 miles and turned my ankle and I'm really trying to believe the swelling will disappear by tomorrow so it will be like it magically never happened, but I'm not sure that will actually happen.
Cleaned up and prepared for book club. Everyone came! It was fun. We reviewed "Anansi Boys" and it was a spirited conversation. The piece de resistance would have to be when Squishy (in order to secure the ever coveted and elusive sticker) stood up and, in front of the five of us, sang "Itsy Bitsy Spider" replete with hand motions. I mean really. Ten out of ten for being totally at ease with yourself and comfortable in your surroundings and for having an excellent sense of humour.
This evening we also did an interesting excercise wherein we wrote down what animal we thought most represented us and the others in the room. People denoted that I was a cat, racoon, ostrich, wolf and greyhound. I was puzzled by ostrich, but Squishy said it was because I they have long legs and run fast. Skyhammer likened me to a cat because I can be both affectionate and standoffish and am independent. All valid assesments.
I said I was like a coyote because I feel like I am on the fringes of society and that I'm shifty and mangy and a bit of a scavenger. They seem like gaunt and hunted animals to me, and I guess that's sometimes how I feel. I might be interesting to observe, but I will eat your innocent little Chihuahua if it wanders too far away from your purview. No one gets overly close to them, they're a bit amorphous and their excited squeals in the dead of the night usually mean something untoward has happened. Weird note? The latin name for coyote is Canis Latrans.
In other news, Coco actually brought me over some guitar strings. I was quite simply dumbfounded by that. I had casually mentioned it in one of my postings and voila: the reason for not digging my guitar out has magically been rectified and now the impetus to do the thing that I have been talking about for years has been thrust upon me.
I love book club.
Also, I downloaded Anya Marina today (she opened for Paolo Nutini) and she fucking rocks as evidenced by this song, and she was fab when I saw her live.

Yeah!
I love the way you write. Coyotes are one of my favorite animals, I miss not hearing them yap at night. And I like your choice of music.
I mean, I miss hearing them. We don't hear them anymore, they've been crowded out by all the people.
There used to be a lot near the house I grew up in (bought by developers, and to be torn down so 30+ townhouses can go up in its spot). They were so cool to see. I saw one dead on the side of the road once and I will never forget what a horrible vision it was and such a sad, unrespected death for such a mysterious animal.
awww, I hate that you have a bad memory of coyotes. Think about this one instead. At our little house on the prairie in Oklahoma, I had on come up to the screen door and just stand there like a yard dog waiting for a hand out. He just looked at me and turned his head from side to side like he was confused as to why I hadn't thrown any burned food out the back door in a few days. He was probably thinking "so you finally learned to cook for your poor husband and baby?"
