Today is nice

It's sunny. I've been sitting in my pajamas on my balcony in the sun reading Joan Didion's latest book. I had put it down as one of my choices for book club, but now that I am almost done I think I will reverse my decision. It's a very good book, but it doesn't lend itself to discussion really unless all the members of book club had lost a loved one and wanted to compare grieving processes. Thanks, but I like to do my grieving in private (except for the time I lost it walking up Lonsdale one night and sat, sobbing on a bench).
It's such a great day to be unemployed. My "free time" now feels more like vacation because there is a fixed point at which time I must return to work. Now I appreciate the time more and it feels much more fleeting.
I'm not sure what to do today. I think I will go for a walk and maybe read a book in the park.
I love the sound of the seagulls. It lends a summery feel to the day. When Michael and I used to talk on the phone every night when I lived in White Rock and he lived in Kerrisdale he would hear the gull's cry in the background and he would mutter something about the damn "shit hawks" that would always wake us up around 6am when he stayed over.

Book Club suggestion: Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts. Long book, but lots to discuss. It took a bit to get into it, but now I am GLUED to it.

I don't do book clubs. Actually I don't do clubs at all.

Me either OE... I don't do gatherings of people... I stand at the front of the yoga class so I don't have to see all the other people. That's also why I don't like shopping... too many people.

I can do shopping. Well, it's more like a military raid - plan, attack, secure the required resources and get the hell outa there.

Exactly! I have a strategy and I don't brouse. And if it's a time when there are a lot of people (weekends, holidays) forget it, I'll do without.

Book club rocks! As does wine club! Run club is fun, but kinda tiring. Though not as tiring as shopping.

Thanks, Supermommy: I will look into it. Length can be touchy. I picked "Atlas Shrugged" last summer. We had a 6 hour book club!
